Ipoh Starwalk 2011

AN ancient Sikh temple, a Methodist church and an army camp set up during the colonial days will be among several historic landmarks along the new route for Ipoh Starwalk 2011.
About 15,000 participants are expected to pass by these heritage buildings during the walk which will be flagged off at Stadium Indera Mulia at 7am on June 19.
Perak Amateur Athletics Association secretary S.O. Appan said the walkers would pass by Jalan Hospital where they could see several interesting buildings including an old Sikh temple at the hill top.
“They can also view other landmarks such as a Methodist church, an old hotel and an army camp that was built during the colonial days,” he said, adding there were also several pre-war shopouses along Jalan Kamaruddin Isa.
Ipoh Starwalk 2011 promises more excitement this year as participants will be enjoying the city’s beauty under new routes for both the non-competition and competition categories.
The event is jointly organised by Star Publi-cations (M) Bhd and the Ipoh City Council with the cooperation of the Perak Government, Perak Amateur Athletics Association and Perak Education Department in conjunction with the city’s 23rd anniversary.
The distance for the non-competition event has been shortened to 7km while the competition route remains at 10km.
Registration fee is RM10 for the non-competition category and RM15 for the competition category, and not RM8 and RM12 respectively as reported yesterday.
Entries for the walk opens now and closing date for entries is May 20 for the competition category and June 3 for the non-competition category.
Participants will get a T-shirt and goodie bag each while those who complete the walk within the stipulated time stand to win attractive prizes.
