This will bring SCCS another step closer to building their new centre at Taman Desa Wira, on a piece of land given to them by the state government.
SCCS president Gary Ho said that the estimated cost of the building is RM2.5 million.
“We have RM700,000 in reserve and we need another RM1.8 million so we can begin construction by the end of the year,” he said.
“We are really in need of that money because we need to build it fast.”
The run is scheduled to take place hot on the heels of another SCCS event, ‘Go Balder Than Ever’, where organisers hope to rally up RM1 million in donations.
Ho stressed that although the beneficiary is the same, the target group is different.
The charity run was organised by the Kenyalang and Batu Kawa Branches of Young Malaysians Movement (YMM), with H&L as the co-organiser and main sponsor.
Scheduled for June 26 at 3pm to 7pm, It will be the first ever charity run in Malaysia to take place in the evening.
Most marathons take place early in the morning, but we want to do something different,” said H&L Supermarket Sdn Bhd’s Corporate Communications Manager Daryl Leong. The run will begin and end at Kuching Waterfront. The proposed route will take runners past landmarks and icons around the city.
Organised in conjunction with YMM’s 50th anniversary, the event also aims to promote a harmonious relationship among all races in line with the 1Malaysia vision and aspiration.
They also want to cultivate sporting activities in promoting a healthy lifestyle, and the benefits of combining sports and charity.
